Tyler Kubik, “Murray N. Rothbard Bibliography: 1940–2019,” Property and Freedom Journal (May 16, 2026)
Editor’s note: We are pleased to present a comprehensive bibliography of the works of Murray N. Rothbard by Tyler Kubik. Kubik sent it to me after he noticed some various information about Rothbard posted on the PFS page for Rothbard at 100: A Tribute and Assessment (2026)2 including David Gordon’s bibliography, “Murray N. Rothbard: Chronological Bibliography (1949–1995),”3 a 54-page bibliography compiling work published between 1949 and 2005; and an Italian Bibliography, from Rothbard.it, which purports to cover Rothbard publications from 1947 to 1996. Kubik’s contains far more entries than these and covers a larger time period, from the early 1940s to 2019.
Kubik explained that he got started compiling this bibliography when researching Rothbard’s writings in response to dishonest left-wing commentary on Rothbard. He ended up gathering a large amount of information from various archives—the Hoover Institution, University of Michigan, scans from inter library loans, Columbia University, University of Kansas, scans made at the library of Congress, online, and so on. In his research, Kubik started noticing some omissions and errors in the Gordon bibliography, so he ended up completing a more comprehensive one, which is reproduced below. The new bibliography includes many items that are published but not online as well as unpublished material; no doubt the Mises Institute archives contain even more material not listed here.
In this new bibliography, the author attempted to provide links for everything available online; uses red text to denote new works or other revisions; numbered Rothbard’s works to get an accurate count of his writings; and noted where works were reprinted. His bibliography stretches from Rothbard’s unpublished autobiography (in the early 1940s) to 2019.
It is the author’s and our hope that this new bibliography will be of use to Rothbard scholars.
